How do you transfer music to an ipod

Getting a new gadget can be a dream. Showing off the new gadget comes in a little later. The question, how do you show off your new gadget to someone when you do not know how to operate it? This can be a tricky.

Imagine you got a new iPod .You are excited because you want to listen to all your favorite music on the device. You are flipping it over and trying to look for a USB port to get files in and out of the device. There is no such port. Then you happen to find the cable that is provided with the device. You fix it to the iPod and connect the other end to the computer. You wait while your computer detects the new device and says “Your new hardware has been installed and is ready to use”. Now you are trying to find your Apple iPod to pop up as one of the drives, but it is just not there! What happened? What did I do wrong? What should I do?

Here is what you should do. Save all the music tracks to your computer. Preferably, on a single drive in a folder. If you are downloading the music, make sure it is from a trusted site. The best format for the music files is mp3 (though you can use other file formats on your iPod too). Download iTunes. Visit the official Apple site and look for the download link. Download the latest version of iTunes. You will be installing iTunes + QuickTime player. Install the package.

Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to the computer using the provided cable. iTunes will detect your iPod and will ask you to set it up (if this is the first time). Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your iPod. In iTunes, select the option to add files/folders to library (you may choose any one depending on your need). Select the specific files and click ok. The music files will be added to your library in iTunes. You can also drag and drop specific files to your library.

Now you have to synchronize your library with your iPod. Before doing this, check if you have all the songs that you want to listen listed in the library. Click on ‘Music’ to find out. Once you are satisfied, select your iPod’s name that should appear in the middle of the left column of menu options. In the right hand screen, you will find a ‘Sync’ button. Click it. You will notice that your iPod says ‘Synchronize in Progress’. Wait until the completion of this procedure. Disconnect your iPod from the computer. Plug in your headphones and enjoy your music!
